The one on my chamber is 110v but the other 3 are 220v so I opened them up, removed the transformer and now they all run off of 12V.

I thought about starting another Temp Controller thread, but having it in the DIY vein, but opted to keep it here for now.  If it is worth separating out, perhaps a mod can do that.  But for now...

Snooping around a bit and it looks like I might be able to put one together for cheaper than I can buy a new one using this plan and pick list.

Controller for $16 on prime:

https://www.amazon.c...ywords=stc 1000

Project Box for $10 on prime:

https://www.amazon.c...oject box 7x5x3

Outlet for $1.14 on prime (add on):

https://www.amazon.c...keywords=outlet

Outlet cover for $0.55 on prime (add on):

https://www.amazon.c...ds=outlet cover

16 Gauge Power Cord for $8.00 on prime:

https://www.amazon.c...auge power cord

Total price looks to be $35.69.

A new Ranco, with shipping, is $49.  Sure, I could save about $15 and be guaranteed that it would work.  The plans don't look that difficult, and if I were ever to want to use it for heating, I would have that capability.  How hard can it be?  After all, I did put together a brew-stick and have not killed myself.  Does anyone see any issue with this set of plans?  Thoughts?  Comments?

Well if you would mount it in a box with outlets

Years ago a made a Love box with switched outlets. Switched dual Loves with one wired to a 25 amp SSR.

Parts are ordered.  I will try to detail the process and post.

All parts (other than the tape and the nut) were under $36.

Except I get it in 2 days, instead of 5 to 7...

Which really doesn't make a dif this go around because I will be out of town next week.

However, there ARE price reductions on some of the products when you use Prime.  The controller itself was something like $5 less than otherwise.  Didn't keep track on the savings from the others.

I didn't know that was a benefit.  I thought it was just the steaming and shipping benefits.

Nope.  Sometimes it's a dollar or two off.  Sometimes it is significantly more.  I just purchased a $68 hammock for camping that cost me something like $16 after the Prime discount.  (Best night sleeping I've had camping)

I clicked on the parts list and you are not getting a true dual relay stc1000.This  is a single relay that will either heat or cool.

This is the vendor I used. As a bonus they were all (total of 4) version 1.0 which will you to flash them if you want

I built all my STCs with front to back configuration. The cables sit to the back of the fridge that way. This is an early one before I figured out mounting the 110v outlet on the outside with a light cover was much easier(duh)I built one in a 6X4X2 box that is quite smaller than the 5x7x3 but getting the 110v outlet in it was a beyotch. If I do another one that small I'll buy some of the individual 110v plugs to mount in it. Like this https://www.amazon.c...9VR89BE9DX9B45SPosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

So BigDaddyAle sent me a note vie FB indicating that the controller I got was not a two stage, but just one and that I should cancel the order.  I attempted to, but it was right at that point where they were packing it and I expect it to be delivered tomorrow.  Which is fine.  I'm ok with having it control jut the cold.  If I wanted to upgrade it in the future, I don't see $16 as a deal breaker.  I could certainly put the cold temp controller in my keggerator, so at least there is that.

Which leads me to this question...

Do I need the outlet?  or can I just wire up and use the female receptacle of the power cord I ordered?  I'm assuming that the internal assembly just got a bit easier.  Having problems finding plans out there (I'm very visual, so YouTube is great for me) as most of them are working with the two stage.

Thoughts?  Comments?

I would crack open the case and check the relay and see how many amps it's rated for.Post over on HBT and they can tell you how to wire it up.If you inform the seller that you were mislead in thinking you were getting a 2 stage STC1000 they will usually give you a discount so you don't give them a negative review.

Thanks for the schematics. Got it put together in under an hour, but took me damn near an hour figuring out how to change it from heating to cooling. All is good now.
