In the spirit of the thread about posting helpful (I hope!) videos, here are some demos I made to help the AHA put their videos together.  It was early in the AM and I look even worse than usual, so don't look at me!  :)

I enjoyed your videos Denny, It would be fun to see more short videos from other members showing how they brew. How did you create your videos and what service/s did you use to upload them? I'm wondering if I could create a similar video but don't know how.

vorlauf = vor-low-f, though sometimes the v will have a slight "f" as in fight.

Krausen = krowzen with a slight initial roll to the r and a hard k at the front. It's in the back of your throat. httpss://www.howtopronounce.com/german/krausen/

I hear so many people say kr-oy-sen and it bugs me.

are you pronouncing the "low" like "loaf" or "loft"?  I always thought it was like "loft" but without the "t".

au is like the ow sound in ouch. It's not as hard a sound though, slightly softer. almost a cross between off and ou.

I'm having a hard time getting my tongue/mouth to make that sound, and I think you are correct.  I've always pronounced it like "loft", but I grew up with a slight speech impediment and I expect that your pronunciation would have been one of my difficulties.

I just shot the video with a cheap Canon camera in video mode.  Uploaded to Photobucket and linked from there.

Don't Germans pronounce their W like a V? So wort would be Vert ?

And how do you pronounce Marzen?

Correct. But it is somewhere in between v and w in English.  Kind of like how in Spanish v is a combo of v and b in English.

Mare-t-zen

I think regionally this varies between the two.  It actually seems much more subtle of a difference to hear Germans pronounce it differently though..
