Moving the conversation over from the other thread...

Does anyone here use growlers for fermenting small batches?  If so, what has been your experience?

Does anyone here naturally carbonate in a growler?  Again, if so, what has been your experience?

I have carbonated in growlers to no bad effects.  Never had any bottle bombs or explosions.  Worst thing with a growler was that I didn't have a cap on tight enough and it leaked pressure.  Otherwise, I've carbonated in growlers about a dozen times.

I don't b/c I use 2L soda bottles with a carbonator cap to get the job done if I have some overflow.

I would find a growler too small. It's 64 oz to the top and by the time you allow for headspace you are brewing what 3 pints of beer at a time. As far as carbing in a growler I go with Morty I use lots of 2l soda bottles. I would naturally carb in a growler if it was one that sealed and not just the screw on caps.
