Took the new Ebrewery out for its first batch yesterday. Did a nice big Black IpA with lots of Amarillo and Simcoe. Everything went pretty darn good. I was a few points high than what I set the recipe up for which was 75%. I decided to go a little low thinking the manifold I built really wasn't up to the proper geometry of my MT. Ended up with 80% on the day which is the number I have always gotten and am pleased with. I took a quick video of the panel during the RIMS and sparge water heating processes. I'm very pleased I decided to go with a 50 amp brewery instead of 30 amps. Lots of power. I did have a hard time with the boil. It was just in my head really. A electric boil looks different from a gas boil because the element is pulsed. Nothing wrong with it just different.

I also decided to set the BK PID to automatic or temperature while fly sparging. I set it to 208* as I was sparging it kept the wort at 208*. Once I was done sparging I set it to manual mode and was getting a great boil at 75%. It didnt take long at all to come to a boil after my sparge because I only needed a few degrees to get there. I really like the PIDS and how they control heat. They wont allow temps to overshoot and will hold it there. So much nicer than messing around with gas valves all the time. Set it and forget it. Other than that there is zero automation in brewing electric. Here is a quick video.

Manifold. I took a little flack on its design but it proved itself worthy. Im going to tweak a few things but other than that Im done and back in the saddle after just a few months off from brewing.

Awesome man, glad everything went well. Manifold looks good. I keep thinking I should modify mine, but I'm getting 80% or more efficiency so haven't bothered yet.

I used a bunch of copper scrap I had lying around. I'd like a SS one like yours someday.

An electric boil is definitely different but I like how I can repeat it every time. For me that is 100% to get the boil going then I back it down to 75%. Works perfectly for me. Glad you got this up and running.

Glad the first brew went well.  I've forgotten about the pulsed boil.  I went to 100% power on the boil years ago.  Just lucky it works with my setup.

Like it!  Is the info on the manifold in the other thread?  I've been looking at the false bottoms from Adventures in Homebrewing for my new set up.  I'm going HERMS.

No its not in the other thread. I can answer more questions about it if needed. I'm not a fan of false bottom in the MT because if sticking problems when using a pump. Manifolds tend to flow much easier. You're milage may vary. I'd like to hear more about your plans!

I've been threatening to go electric for a while.  First bought a HLT from Swagman to just heat strike water.  Buddy here built a HERMS electric system.  Decided to go that route, so he has worked out the bugs.I can repurpose a lot of what I have, but need to build a new MT.  I guess I could try it first with the manifold.  If it doesn't work, get a FB.  BTW, does the manifold need a grant?

Nope. But a FB will if you are pumping from it. If you use a pump with a FB I would highly suggest a grant or rice holes (which are a PIA to work with). I cant tell you how many times brewers come to me complaining about stuck mashes with a FB. I switched probably 8yrs ago after sticking my FB for the last time. That MT full of grain was thrown off the porch I was so mad. Your mileage could vary but manifolds rarely stick if ever.
