Huh, I haven't run into that stuff yet. I would certainly use it if I did.

mostly stuff along the top edge from the boil that gets kind of cooked on.  there is also usually a build up of stuff on the bottom that looks like discoloration but will actually come off with enough elbow grease.

Denny, did you clean anything with beer stone on it?

For the most part I keep my stuff really clean and I find a quick wash of the kettle after brewing may occasionally needs some cleaner. I've even had luck using star san in the kettle after I'm done with it. The only cleaning issue I come across is I'll use kegs a number of times and then bulk clean 4 or 5 at a time. I normally use hot oxyclean for this and if this product works good on beer stone that would be worth trying for me.

Nope, not yet.  I don't really have much problem with that.  But I'm gonna try to find something like that to test the alkaline cleaner on.

I don't have time to scrub and I want to make sure things are clean so I pretty much fill up everything and let it soak with some oxiclean.

That just seems like a tremendous waste of water. I always used BKF and a green scrubbie on my kettle. Easy cleanup

I really need to make a cleaning unit that will keep cleaning solution hot. I'll have to order some of this stuff and see how it works.

That is what I love about my RIMS.  It lets me keep the solution hot while I clean.

I don't know about that. My house water pressure is about 3 gal/min so to fill 15 gallons I'm standing there for 5 minutes. I could easily lightly scrub a kettle and rinse it out within that time.

I do other things while it fills up.  Also in the past I thought I was doing a good job cleaning by hand but I was not based on the build up that would occur on the bottom of the kettle.

do you have a 15 gallon kettle?  I find it kind of large and unwieldy to clean.  even rinsing it out at a later date is kind of a PITA.

LOL. If your time was that valuable you'd be paying someone to brew for you. I agree that I could scrub and rinse my kettle quicker than you could fill and empty yours

thanks for the tip Denny

I am just too cheap, I guess.

I make my own PBWesque wash, 2 Parts Sun Oxygen Cleaner, 1 Part Real TSP, 1 Part Sodium Metasilicate

I gave up on Oxiclean years ago. There was some savings, but PBW works too well and is too reliable to bother with Oxiclean. If this stuff gets the Denny seal of approval, I need to check it out.

I don't use Oxy alone anymore, not without a surfactant

IMO, it cleans better and dissolves and rinses more easily than PBW.  Not that PBW is a slouch in any of those departments.

I'd assume (probably incorrectly) that to beat PBW a Phosphate is involved, no bueno in WA

from a restaurant supplier $18 for a 1 gallon plastic jar, it's illegal to sell in consumer products, but not illegal to use (confusing, I know)

Lowes also sells it.  Just make sure it's actually TSP and not something else.
