I am typically much more of a lurker than a poster here. I read through threads that interest me, and if I feel I have anything of worth to contribute, I'll add it in. When I have questions, this is the only place I go to, I honestly don't trust any of the other forums like I do this one.

Good high shelf info here.  Not a lot of "Is this beer infected?"

this is the route I'm going I think.  Others mentioned it in this thread as well.  I was trying to create traffic where maybe it didn't make sense just hoping it would get things really rolling in here.  I was feeling frustrated - not sure why - I'll just go to mostly lurking and add value where it makes the most sense.  I don't have that many questions generally as this board has done a good job of educating me on most of the things I need to know and the rest I could find on the internets.  braukaiser's website is highly recommended to anyone that is interested in the finer details of a lot of topics with some nice experiments and conclusions to go with them.

If topics are just posted naturally (albeit slower), their quality will be higher and the content of the beer forum will be better. I think we talked about this once before... if every 10 minutes you start a new thread, there is going to be topics like "I SHARTED!" and the forum topics will be filled with fluff instead of good content. Just an observation.

No offense to this forum, but you need to check out the AHA forum.  Far and away the best info you'll find.  And as friendly and collegial as this place.

Supporting the AHA forum is fine. But my friends from brewing for 10+ years are here.

I absolutely understand that and I was only referring to the quality of the info.  The people there are as great as the people here.  If someone wanted to participate in another forum besides this one, that would be a good choice.

Do I need to be an AHA member to participate in the forum?

Nope.  I made sure of that.  You may decide to join after you check pout what the AHA has to offer, but you're welcome to join the forum whether you're a member or not.

I have hung out on the AHA forum and I do agree that the brewers there all seem to be a who's who of homebrewers (names I have seen here and on TBN, NB, etc) who I would totally trust. It's a nice forum with a lot of good information and seasoned brewers. Most of the time I end up there it's because I'm following a link but I don't think I have ever signed up there.

Good. I'm guilty of not posting as much here as I could. Sometimes I just feel as if there isn't anything left to add to a thread that hasn't been covered. When the threads turn to debate, I just post my experience and move on. Not going to argue with anyone. I do make sure to use "IMHO" or "in my experience" though. There are no absolutes in homebrewing.

the only absolute are that there are none.  I see delicious beers and I have to comment.  It's a weakness.

Brew the hell out of those beers! I was stuck in an APA/IPA rut for several years. I moved to lagers to get myself out of it. When this gets to be boring, I'll move to something new. Keep your brewing fresh.

some departures I have planned coming:

1) ayinger dunkel clone with WL833

2) hennipin like saison clone with belle saison yeast

My ordinary brews are IPAs, pale ales, stouts and the occasional amber or brown thrown in.

I thought about doing something along the lines of that Ayinger clone except for already having that Czech Cerne' in the keg. I'll have to see if I can get that beer here, see if it's dramatically different from what I already have on tap.

I have had a similar (but different :P) thought lately.  I kinda wish there was more "traffic" in the beer section, but at the same time, I also dont want it to be contrived and fake.  There are other forums that have a ton of traffic, but it feels like the blind leading the blind.  I still wish there was a little more life and liveliness over here, but I am glad that what we have is what it is.  I for one, will try to participate more and maybe start new topics without trying to force them too much.
