I feel it improved my IPAs, what I brew most of the time. Granted I never used strips prior to getting the meter. I admit to liking "gadgets" and use the meter every brewery. I like to know all my numbers from batch to batch, that is the engineer in me. Mine was only $80 though 😀.I'm very doubtful a $100 PH meter is going to improve my beer. I do however think it would be helpful in brewing sours where I tend to check PH often.

I'm not nearly as confident as you. I'll take all the help, tools and gadgets I can get! I want confidence when I brew and I want to know what's happening (as best I can) and I don't want surprises. We were having a conversation once about predicting pH based on the grain bill and Martin was a part of that thread too. I mentioned Rahr Pale Ale malt as a base malt and he said something about entering it into BNW as a higher SRM than it actually is (or something like that... correct me if I'm sniffing around the wrong fire hydrant) because it lowers the mash pH more than a typical base malt would. These are the types of things that you don't know unless you measure it. Some crystals say that they're between 75 and 93L. It probably won't make much difference but there are clearly variables so I'd like to know as much as possible and assume as little as possible.I'm very doubtful a $100 PH meter is going to improve my beer. I do however think it would be helpful in brewing sours where I tend to check PH often.

I think the last line is the most important and should be mentioned more often. The best part is we all make beer we like along with others. Cheers! As noted I gut check with a borrowed meter and check my report. I don't build water and my ph is pretty stable. So for the 12 ye I've been brewing the extra money is wasted. What works for me doesn't work for others.

True very true.
On a side note, my Alt that I brewed at the local pub went over well with the public. Ended up with 11.5bll in the serving tank and it was gone in just under a month. we had a total of 80 check in's on untappd with 4 stars. Its interesting reading reviews from people you have no idea who they are. The brewers and management want to keep this beer around. Anyways, point being enjoy whats in your glass.
